The Eugene Sounds Retrospective live, April 6th at the Cake Shop!

Our illustrious site manager and musical director Andras will once again be bringing alive the sounds of the 90’s and the work of that burned-out grunge maven and associate professor of English, Eugene Sounds, on Monday, April 6th at 10pm at the Cake Shop in Manhattan (152 Ludlow Street). He’ll be joined by the able hands and fine voices of the Eugene Sounds Retrospective, featuring drum, bass, trumpet, and two fine backup singers (their details to follow). For a sampling of the Eugene Sounds sound, along with that of the Retrospective, check out this link and click Eugene.

E. Sounds Retrospective

Our long-time contributor and collaborator, Eugene Sounds, has been hiding away, nose to the grindstone, heart in the head, head in the clouds, feet moving ’round. He has been invited by some friends to play some of his songs on March 12th at Bar Matchless in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, NY.

Rumor has it that there will be a full band with vocal harmonies and exciting song arrangements that harken back to a simpler time… the 90’s.

BTW, the end of the world

In case anyone was wondering about what the tagline means, the Washington Post brings us a reminder today. But just as the Good Lord takes all away, he gives something. In the Northeast, e.g., he gives a yearly allotment of 70 degree days in the depths of winter.

A myriad possibilities;

reading pleasures.

Take notice of several written updates as we enter another mildly warmer weekend.

The Parable of Stoner Mark has hit the pages of Bye Bye Blue Smoke sending subtle shivers up our recessing spines.

Private Mercury has written back to his sweetheart.

While The Arts endure at Patronizing the Arts.

Don’t forget By the Skin of Words words

And the ever prolific Adams : Doclock and Adam’s Garden

I listen to the news to feel better about my life. Godspeed!

the time capsule…

still unburied…consider it at the embalmer’s getting lip-sticked and adorned with modest jewelry nobody is looking to inherit.

We mean to encourage all to join us. When we are especially busy at our jobs (the dark comedy hour is like the pride of sunday), we may only have that to say to try to excuse our own need to support ourselves, hide away/renounce life or certain weeks of it, or take on engaging adventures and relations. We also have a commitment to be AD-free as long as possible, (which is so easy right now since half our hits are in house) even in the event some gimmick or happenstance poignancy afforded from our gates produced crazy hits like my man Frank Warren over at POSTSECRET.COM. (Check out his weekly community arts project. Talk about the pride of sunday.) Anyway, we wanted to especially encourage you fine folks who made it to the ice cream social last saturday to step into this little internet fiasco bourgening here inches over (styrofoam) cup level.

We want to hand folks mics and blank pages and lure them into creating things and feeling nice if possible.

Saturdays party was oh so dark comedy hour–it was a shotgun affair that got better and better the more wobbly everyone got. The sound system was screwy for the movies so the world premier of the DCH’s ‘rebirth’ piece, “oh nine” didn’t exactly go over as we had hoped. You can check it out below however…

Our live music acts braved the weak sound output as well as the droves of folks getting increasingly loud drunk, and full of tacos and pizza. Many thanks to the Great Republic of Rough and Ready, to Becca Stevens and to Dan Rodriguez and Eugene Sounds for playing pretty music free for all the kids. We’d thank the DJ too but we handed him a check for his services–the preferred method of thanks.

More DCH events to come! Hopefully before this same one next year.
Blessings!!!
